Danica's Profile

Danica is 18 years old and is from Sutton, Co. Dublin. She just sat her Leaving Cert this year and hopes to study law this September. Danica has acne, which started when she was 12 years of age.

She is very self -conscious about her skin and is quite shy. Danica feels herself that her confidence would be a lot better if her skin looked better. She never leaves the house without make-up and even goes swimming wearing it!Danica is a healthy weight and exercises regularly attending the Westwood Fitness Centre in Dublin regularly.
Her diet is quite good in that she doesn't eat much chocolate or junk food but admits that she needs to eat more vegetables.Danica does not smoke and drinks only at the weekend.

While Danica attended a dermatologist who said diet was not a factor in the cause of her acne, Paula felt a better diet filled with nutrients could definitely help counteract the severity of it. She also introduced Danica to a programme which could be downloaded onto her phone called Wirefile Handheld Health, this kept account of the number of portions of fruit and vegetables she had on a daily basis, in other words it was like her own virtual dietician!

Danica wants desperately for her skin to improve and is open to any suggestions that may help her. So the Squad felt it was very important to help Danica before she made her journey to College. Karen wanted to stimulate Danica's circulatory system to balance her body so that her skin would function normally reducing her acne. She introduced her to Body Balance, an exercise class that moves in a flowing dance-like sequence. She also advised Danica to try acupuncture.

Shalini worked with Danica to encourage her to consider giving up make-up (at least for a short period of time) and face the very painful feelings she developed around her appearance. Although it may seem inconceivable to Danica, it is essential to building some self-esteem.
